I am an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong, where I teach on the MA programmes in AI, Ethics, and Society and in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.

My work sits between cognitive neuroscience, philosophy of mind, and machine learning, and it circles one question: where are the boundaries of human agency? During my PhD in Computational and Data Sciences at Chapman University I built a low-latency, closed-loop TMS–EMG setup that triggers a brain-stimulation-evoked movement precisely as a participant is about to move voluntarily — close enough to the moment of action that people disown the movement as not their own. Related work has used Lempel–Ziv complexity to characterise how badly humans generate random sequences, and has examined how suggestion shapes psychedelic experience.

More recently I have turned to the machine side of the comparison: what it means to say an algorithm is simulated rather than run, how prompt engineering is really critical thinking in disguise, and how creative industries are absorbing generative AI. I also organise a community reading group with AI Safety Hong Kong.
